How to Make Digital Security Less Boring

Let's face it: digital security can be a snoozefest for many of us (looking at you, husband of mine). Write it as a blog post, and I lose my audience faster than you can say "two-factor authentication." But… present the same information as a conversation between two "people," and suddenly, engagement happens. It’s the nature of the beast. There's something about dialogue that captures our attention. Turns out it also makes complex topics more digestible.

The Science of Audio Learning

Research shows that audio learning can be highly effective. Studies in Psychology Today and ScienceDaily, among others, found that auditory learning can enhance memory retention, especially for complex information. And… especially important for any aging brain, it can also lead to improvements in memory, attention, and overall cognitive function​. This makes podcasts an ideal medium for tackling detailed subjects like digital security.

Why I’m Obsessed with Audio Content

I love audiobooks and podcasts. I have been listening to them for decades. They keep my brain engaged while I do other things (knitting, making dinner, and trail runs spring to mind). I can get a little smarter by fitting learning into the nooks and crannies of my day. My listening library is hovering around 1,000 titles. There is simply no way I have time to read that many books. (Must also admit to being a fan of listening on 1.5 or 2x speed for those narrators that are slowing me down. Love this tip.)

The Cool AI Tech That Makes This Podcast Possible

Lastly, I’m not going to lie—the technology that makes this podcast possible is incredibly cool. Gluu Society is a small, rapidly growing nonprofit. We don't currently have the resources to produce a human-hosted podcast. But I really want to share this information with you in an audible way. What’s a gal to do? Enter Google NotebookLM, a brand new experimental AI you might be hearing about in the news. This AI (free at the moment) breathes life into all the essential digital security content I’ve created.

Blending Human Expertise and AI: The Future of Learning

Part of the mission of Gluu is to help our Gluusters become digitally secure and experience new technology. The Unscammable Podcast does both. The response to our AI-hosted podcast has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m excited about this blend of AI and human expertise. My guess is the voice will become a little boring over time, but pretty sure the smarty-pants at the Googleplex are working on that. It’s going to be fun to see how it changes over time.
